Started working at the age of 14 at Café Wonderworld….. (money to ski), she was hooked. Annie went on to work in several specialty restaurants before opening her own catering business “Here comes Annie” at the age of 21. As things developed she became more sophisticated and morphed into The Catered Affair which served the Northern California area from Sacramento to Southern Oregon. Among many other adventures in fine establishments she also co-owned Carolyn’s Inn, a Bed and Breakfast in Mt Shasta that specialized in hospitality at it’s finest and serving up the most scrumptious pastries with seasonal berry compotes and syrups from the region.
Her training in Culinary Arts and Catering taught her the importance of listening and learning. Knowing the difference between service and hospitality has been one of the most important factors in her success.
Annie brought her skills and passion to Alaska first in 1975 for a few years then returned in 1990 to work in local eateries and catering until she purchased Chez Alaska Cooking School in January 2012.
She is joined by Jerry Spaulding who plays a key role in supporting the school “Annie won’t let him cook”, but rest assured you will have a full glass of wine with your food always served with a smile. He may have even caught the Salmon you’re enjoying.
We work closely with Incarcerated Youth and the Reach Program to help promote positive attainable skills in the Culinary Arts for all levels to enrich their lives and those around them. This has been an emotionally rewarding opportunity for all involved!
